Why in news:


The new political map of India, recently released by the government to account for the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir, has triggered fresh protests over an old issue in Nepal.


Highlights:


· The new political map of India shows Kalapani as part of India.


· Kalapani is a 372-sq km area mapped within Uttarakhand, bordering far-west Nepal and Tibet.


· While the Nepal government and political parties have protested, India has said the new map does not revise the existing boundary with Nepal and accurately depicts the sovereign territory of India.

Timeline: Defining the boundaries


· Treaty of Sugauli: Nepal’s western boundary with India was marked out in the Treaty of Sugauli between the East India Company and Nepal in 1816.


· Nepali authorities claim that people living in the low-density area were included in the Census of Nepal until 58 years ago.


· Nepal claims that the late King Mahendra had “handed over the territory to India” in the wake of India-China War of 1962.


· Visit: The Prime Ministers of the two countries discussed the issue in 2000, with Atal Bihari Vajpayee assuring Nepal that India would not occupy even an inch of Nepal.


· Five years ago, the matter was referred to a new mechanism comprising foreign secretaries of both sides.


· Apart from Kalapani, another unresolved issue involves a vast area along the Nepal-Uttar Pradesh border.


· Try to Resolve issue: During his visit to Nepal in 2014, Prime Minister Modi had said that the Susta and Kalapani issues would be sorted out.

Highlights:


· India’s first-ever Arts Exposition for Artists blessed with Down Syndrome, Autism, Mental Retardation, Seizure Disorder and Dyslexia will start in New Delhi 11-Nov.


· "eCAPA 2019 - Art from the Heart" is a unique nationwide platform cum social venture for such artists to showcase their visual and performing arts.


· This exposition will continue till 14th November at STIR Gallery, Chattarpur Farms.


· The aim of this exposition is to create an exclusive platform to showcase the visual and performing art talents of young adults with intellectual challenges.


· Divyang artists are presenting their varied skills in areas including drawings, paintings, doodles, dance and music in the event.


· It will also provide them with opportunities to find mentors in the visiting artists and eminent masters of different crafts.

Why in news:


Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment visited the “Shilpostav- 2019” to encourage the artisans at Dilli Haat, INA, in New Delhi.


Highlights:


· Shilpostav- 2019 is the annual fair of artisans from across the country, belonging to the weaker sections of the society, which began on 1st November and will continue till 15th November 2019.


· Interacting with the artisans is working towards empowering disadvantaged and marginalized artisans nationwide and in continuance of this, Shilpostav has been organized every year.


· The artisans assisted by the Apex corporations of the Ministry Social Justice and Empowerment i.e. National Backward Classes Finance & Development Corporation (NBCFDC), National Scheduled Caste Finance & Development Corporation (NSFDC), National Handicapped Finance & Development Corporation (NHFDC), National Safai Karamchari Finance & Development Corporation (NSKFDC) and National Trust are displaying and selling their products.

  • NO MONEY FOR TERROR' MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs leads the Indian delegation at ' No Money for Terror' Ministerial Conference in Melbourne, Australia


Highlights:


· The delegation comprises of high ranking officials including DG NIA.


· 65 nations are represented at the conference.


· The united global effort against all those who support terror or help generate finances for terror.


· To emphasized India's zero-tolerance approach towards terror.

Shri Reddy proposed four points for inclusion in the resolution:


· Terrorism is the single biggest threat to peace, security and development.


· Nations must expedite the finalisation of a Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism under the United Nations.


· FATF Standards must be effectively enforced and UN listings / FATF should not be politicised.


· Initiate discussion on Countering Financing of Radicalisation (CFR), which would prevent radicalisation - an essential prerequisite of terrorism.

GLOBAL EXHIBITION ON SERVICES (GES) 2019

Why in news:


Union Minister of Commerce and Industry launched the curtain raiser of 5th Global Exhibition on Services (GES) which will be held in Bengaluru from 26th – 28th November 2019.


About:


· Four editions of GES have already been held.


· The event is organised by Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry in partnership with Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).


Highlights:


· Focus on increasing ‘trade in services’


· Showcasing 12 Champion Services Sectors


· Over 500 participants from 100 countries


· Release of Report on Services Sectors


· Avenues for partnerships through B2B, B2G, G2G meetings


· Food Festivals, Cultural Evenings, Networking Dinners

In GES 2019 SEPC is also looking to promote eSports. The eSports industry is expected to grow rapidly and in 2017 worldwide revenue generated in eSports market amounted to USD 655 million.

The ‘India Services’ brand was created by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to promote the 12 champion services sectors.


Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) is an export promotion council set up by Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India in 2006 as an apex trade body to facilitate service exporters of India.

  • INNOVATIONS FOR DEFENCE EXCELLENCE (iDEX)

Why in news:


Defence innovations conference showcasing accomplishments of iDEX to be held on 11-Nov


Highlights:


· The conference aims to bring together all stakeholders of the iDEX ecosystem, Ministry of defence, iDEX selected startups, Partner Incubators, Defence Innovation Organisation, Nodal agencies (Indian Army, Navy, Airforce), Defence Research and Development Organisation and Defence Public Sector Undertakings and Indian Ordnance Factories.


· The reports, launch of iDEX Portal and launch of Defence India Startup Challenge (DISC)-III are some of the major activities planned during this day-long event.

  • 2G ETHANOL PLANT, PANIPAT

Why in news:


The Ministry of Environment has given Environment Clearance to Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to set up new 2G Ethanol plant at Panipat.


Highlights:


· IOCL had earlier submitted a proposal seeking Environmental Clearance for its proposed 100 KLPD Ligno-Cellulosic 2G Ethanol Plant in Baholi, Panipat district of Haryana.


· The Central Government has identified production and use of ethanol as one the thrust area to reduce import dependency


· It increase farmers’ income.


· The Ethanol produced will be used for blending in transportation fuel.


· Recently the Central Government had declared that no separate environmental clearance is required to produce additional ethanol from B-heavy molasses as it does not contribute to the pollution load, giving further benefits to farmers and the sugar industry.

  • PLIOSAUR

Why in news:


Now, pliosaur bones have been found in Poland.


· Interest in these giants has been revived with the recent discovery of their bones in a cornfield in the Polish village of Krzyzanowice.


· Remains of pliosaurs are rare in Europe.


Highlights:


· Over 150 million years ago, enormous reptiles swam the Jurassic oceans.


· Predatory reptiles ruled the seas millions of years ago.


· The largest aquatic carnivorous reptiles that have ever lived, they are often dubbed “sea monsters”. Scientifically, they are placed in the suborder Pliosauroidea, whose members are called pliosaurs.


· “They measured over 10 metres in length and could weigh up to several dozen tons.


· They had powerful, large skulls and massive jaws with large, sharp teeth.


· Their limbs were in the form of fins.


· We found bones of these pliosaurs in the north of the Swietokrzyskie Mountains,” palaeontologist Dr Daniel Tyborowski said in a statement released by Poland’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education.


· The locality where the remains were discovered is considered to be rich in the fossils of coastal reptiles. Researchers now hope to find more remains in the coming months.
